In Qing Dynasty(1644-1911), people were not allowed to go out at night. The city's gate would close at down. etc. Those things need timing. That was the role the Dram Tower and Bell Tower played.

Where is Beijing?
Beijing is located in the east part of China as its capital for about 800 years since 13 century when Mongolian people ruled half of the world including China. After that, Beijing was the capital of China for Ming and Qing Dynasty. Beijing is now the center of politics and culture of China.
